Subject: The addition of free agent Cameron
Content: Saints record-setting quarterback Drew Brees has his three most productive receiving targets back from last season 鈥?and then some. The addition of free agent Cameron Meredith and rookie Tre'Quan Smith Authentic Justin Bailey Jersey , combined with the four-game suspension of 2017 rushing leader Mark Ingram, has set the stage for the Saints to revert to a more pass-heavy attack 鈥?if they choose. Last season, Brees' 4,334 yards passing were his fewest as a Saint, but that could be attributed to New Orleans often playing with leads and controlling the clock with an effective running game. Still, leading receiver Michael Thomas made the Pro Bowl in his second NFL season with 1,245 yards and five touchdowns, Ted Ginn Jr. had one of his best seasons with 787 yards and four TDs, and versatile running back Alvin Kamara was the offensive rookie of the year in large part because of his 826 yards and five TDs receiving. "Forget about the new guys for a second and just start with Mike Thomas and Kamara and Drew Brees," said Tampa Bay coach Dirk Koetter, whose Buccaneers open the regular season at New Orleans on Sunday. "Right there, you've got a passing game." The 6-foot-3 Meredith is eager to regain his form of two seasons ago, when he was Chicago's leading receiver. He missed 2017 with torn knee ligaments and also has been limited this preseason. On Wednesday, Meredith practiced fully and said he feels ready to immediately contribute to the offense. "First of all Henrik Lundqvist Jersey Kids , when you've got a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback at the reins, anything is possible," Meredith said. "Drew's all about timing, so right now we're making up for lost time kind of, me and him specifically, getting our chemistry, our timing down. A lot of those windows (to complete passes) open up and close real fast." "Coming back this year feels great," Meredith added. "I just need to pick up where I left off." Ginn said he has been impressed by the speed of the 6-2 Smith as well as how quickly the third-round draft choice out of Central Florida showed he could be productive in preseason games. Smith was New Orleans' leading receiver in the preseason with 15 catches for 189 yards and a TD. Meredith caught only two passes in limited action, but one reception went for 56 yards and the other for a 16 yards touchdown. Ginn said Smith and Meredith together could add "a lot" to New Orleans' passing game. "They bring height. They bring speed. They make great catches," Ginn said. "With Cam going, fighting back from the injury he had, Tre'Quan coming in and learning the system, I think they all came in and picked it up like they were supposed to, and they started playing faster and faster as the weeks go on. As this thing keeps going http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/rod-smith-jersey , as this boat keeps floating, you should see a lot more out of them." Brees suggested that the additions of new receivers, combined with Kamara's effectiveness as both a runner and receiver, should only make it tougher for defenses to anticipate where the ball is going on a given play. "We are rotating guys all over the place and so it's about creating mismatches. It's about creating confusion for the defense," Brees said. "Cam Meredith is coming along. He missed a lot of the offseason just coming off the knee (surgery) into training camp, and we're just continuing to use that time to develop trust, confidence, chemistry. Tre'Quan's gotten a ton of (snaps) from training camp until now. I think both those guys, as we move along here, will become an integral part of what we do." In Week 1, the Saints will be matching up against a Bucs defense that ranked last against the pass last season. Yet Koetter made it clear his defense couldn't afford to sleep on the Saints' running game, either. After all, much of the credit for New Orleans' success on the ground last season was attributed to a formidable offensive line and receivers who block well. "If you don't stop their running game, (Saints) coach (Sean) Payton is going to keep running the ball on you Womens Victor Rask Jersey ," Koetter said. Notes: The Saints had only two running backs practicing on Wednesday following their decision to waive rookie Boston Scott and sign offensive lineman Michael Ola. The addition of Ola came as starting left guard Andrus Peat missed practice with a quadriceps injury. Edwin Jackson is making the most of his opportunity with yet another new team. The 34-year-old journeyman earned his first win with Oakland, pitching neatly into the seventh inning as the Athletics beat the Cleveland Indians 7-2 Saturday for their season-high sixth straight victory. Jackson (1-0) signed a minor league contract with the A’s on June 6 and is now with his record-tying 13th major league team. He gave up only two hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked none in his second start for Oakland. .tpClipInfo > * { display: none !important; } .tpPlayer { display: none !important; } .tpReleaseList > * { display: none !important; } .tpReleaseModel > * { display: none !important; } .tpNavigation > * { display: none !important; } .tpSearch > * { display: none !important; } .tpCategoryModel > * { display: none !important; } .tpHeader > * { display: none !important; } .tpCategoryList > * { display: none !important; } ”Honestly, when I can look in the mirror and say that I can’t do it any more, I’ll go home,” Jackson said. ”I’m not playing for the money. I’m not playing for anything else but to come have fun,” he said. Jackson was in the minors for Washington earlier this season, then joined the A’s. With their rotation beset by injuries, the Athletics gave Jackson a chance. Matt Olson, Dustin Fowler and Josh Phegley homered to help the A’s win for the 12th time in 14 games. They’ve won seven straight against Cleveland and nine of their last 10 against the Indians in Oakland. Jackson has won 10 consecutive decisions over Cleveland, a streak dating to 2008. His string against the Indians is the longest since Charlie Hough beat them 13 straight times from 1984-88. Jackson has 13 strikeouts and hasn’t allowed a walk in 12 2/3 innings through his first two starts with Oakland. He topped out at 97 mph on Saturday. ”Based on the way he was available and the way he’s been able to pitch for us it’s a surprise, but he’s always been able to do that a little bit with the sinker and the four-seamer,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said. ”Now he just manipulates a little bit more and the offspeed stuff with the changeup speed and the slider. . It really keeps you off-balance,” he said. The AL Central-leading Indians lost for the fourth time in five games. The A’s trailed 2-0 going into the sixth, when Franklin Barreto became their first baserunner with a leadoff double against Adam Plutko (4-2). Phegley followed with his second home run and Oakland took a 3-2 lead when Fowler scored from first on Mark Canha’s double. ”I was extremely happy with the first four (innings) and how could you not be?” Plutko said. ”Even in the fifth I liked what I was doing Authentic Clay Matthews Jersey , but in the sixth they came out with four straight hits, flexed their muscle and that was the game.” Francisco Lindor hit his 20th homer and Jose Ramirez hit his 24th in the Cleveland fourth. Oakland broke the game open in the eighth, when they homered twice in a four-run inning. Fowler hit his fifth home run leading off the inning against Dan Otero, and Olson hit a two-run shot off Josh Tomlin, his 18th. Rookie Lou Trivino induced Yonder Alonso to hit into a game-ending for his third save. Trivino came into the game after the Indians loaded the bases with one out in the ninth off Santiago Casilla on a hit, a walk and a hit batter. HOME The A’s finally got their offense going at home, where going into Saturday were batting .233 and averaging 3.61 runs per game at the Coliseum. Oakland is hitting .263 and averaging 5.55 runs on the road. TRAINER’S ROOM Indians: LHP Tyler Olson (latissimus dorsi strain) threw his first bullpen on Friday and is expected to throw off a mound again on Sunday. … LHP Ryan Merritt (left knee sprain) threw 48 pitches on Friday in a rehab game with Triple-A Columbus. . RHP Carlos Carrasco (right elbow contusion) was expected to throw 65 pitches in a rehab game with Double-A Akron on Saturday. Athletics: 3B Matt Chapman (right thumb contusion) will take BP on Sunday and could be activated for Tuesday’s series opener against San Diego without going on a rehab assignment. ”Even if we don’t feel like potentially he’s up to speed offensively, he can save some runs out there defensively,” Melvin said. UP NEXT RHP Mike Clevinger (6-3, 3.03 ERA) is 0-1 with a 7.04 ERA in two outings (one start) against Oakland. He’s 2-1 with a 2.07 ERA over his last four starts. RHP Frankie Montas (4-1, 3.68) is 1-1 with a 7.20 ERA over his last three starts. — Los Angeles Chargers Elite Jerseys
